What to do if I get sunburned?
The key of having a healthy skin is protecting it from the Sun. For many reasons we are not meticulous when we reapply sunscreen. Sometimes we forget about it altogether and our skin gets burned. According to the advice of doctors at the American Academy of Dermatology, the moment we feel that our skin is burning from the sun, we should move to a closed environment, where the sun cannot penetrate. It is advisable to immediately take a shower with fresh water since that will help you to relieve the pain. Once out of the tub, or shower, pat dry your skin gently, using a dabbing motion. Drying should be partial and the skin should stay moist. The last step of what we can do to relieve the sunburn is that immediately after you are dry, you apply moisturizer on your moist skin to help it absorb the water that is left on the skin. It is advisable to choose a moisturizer, which may contain Aloe Vera, which helps soothe burnt skin. If burnt skin causes discomfort it is suggested to use aspirin, or Ibuprofen, to reduce swelling, redness and to relieve pain. It is advisable to drink as much water as possible. Burned skin draws water inside, which can lead to dehydration. If you notice blisters forming on the skin, you need to be very vigilant because they are indicators that it’s a second-degree burn. You should try at all costs not to break them, because the body forms them, to protect the skin from infections. Avoid sun exposure while the skin is healing. If this is impossible it is suggested that you wear clothes that do not allow sunlight to penetrate.
