Vaccines – Our protective weapons against Covid-19
In the times that Coronavirus (Covid-19) conquered the world, our lives changed radically. It was a struggle for survival and forced us to change our lifestyle by restricting our activities and our freedom. We were forced to see and hug others in the distance. The mask was and it is still our protective friend and for a period our isolation was the only way to escape from Covid-19. This new reality resembles like a fiction book or television series. Nowdays everyone wants to learn more and more about the vaccines, how to use them and how efficient they are against Covid -19.
The only two vaccines authorized are Pfizer’s vaccine and Moderna’s version. Pfizer was authorized on Dec 12, 2020 and Moderna’s version on Dec 18, 2020. Both, vaccines require two shots that should be several weeks apart. The second dose of Pfizer vaccine is given three weeks after the first and the second dose of Moderna’s is given four weeks after the first. Fortunately the two vaccines showed a higher efficacy of 95%. The Pfizer emergency use authorization is for people aged 16 and older. The Moderna’s version is for 18 years old and older.
Meanwhile one of the most interesting topics about the vaccine is related to vaccines’s side effects.
Based on the fact that the vaccines are being used in different groups of people, on different ages, reaserchers and experts explain that are people who may experience some side effects after getting the coronavirus vaccine. Some side effect include: Swelling or redness at the injection side, temperature 37.8°C or higher, headache, muscle ache, feeling tired etc.
The population in the world is divided in two groups: the first group that believes in using of the vaccines and the other group that are skeptical and doesn’t believe in them. The real answer will be revealed in the moment that the population will be all vaccinated. The only thing that we know for sure is that the vaccines are created for the people with the main reason of salvation, and the history of health and medicines shows us that the vaccines had saved lives, and for now this is our expectation. It’s impossible that the vaccines could be divided in the same time in all the population so the U.S.Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is recommending groups of people who should get priority such as doctors and nurses, media staff, teachers and some other categories that need the vaccine first.
Even the vaccines are still in the beginning stages and are being used in some countries, it still takes time to win the fight against Coronavirus, until then all we can do is hope for the best…
